NHS Intern Spotlight!

Meet Senior Ava Bucher! Ava is one of our Newport High School interns serving at Newport Elementary in Mrs. O’Donnell’s Kindergarten classroom and Mrs. Templeton’s 2nd grade classroom. She absolutely loves her internship experience and is gaining valuable skills in teaching techniques, classroom management, and planning creative activities.

Ava shares that the best part of her internship is, “helping the teachers in any way I can, and getting to know the students more and more every day.” Her dedication is truly inspiring. While some seniors enjoy senior privilege in the mornings, Ava chooses to spend that time at the elementary school working alongside students and teachers.

Ava’s career goal is to become a teacher and earn a degree in Early Childhood Education. Her top college choice is Millersville University.

In addition to her internship, Ava was recently recognized as Newport High School’s Rotary Club Student of the Month for February. The Rotary Club honors seniors for their academic excellence, extracurricular involvement, and community achievements.

Ava is highly involved at NHS. She is a member of Varsity Club and PYEA, serves as Vice President of the Senior Class, cheers on the sidelines as part of the Cheer Team, and supports our athletes as a wrestling manager. Outside of school, her family volunteers with Charlie’s Crusaders and fosters puppies. During the summer, Ava works as a lifeguard at Little Buffalo State Park.

Ava stays busy and excels in every area she pursues!

A huge thank you to Mrs. Templeton (2nd Grade Teacher) and Mrs. O’Donnell (Kindergarten Teacher) for mentoring Ava this year.

Congratulations, Ava, on all of your accomplishments! We wish you continued success as you make the Newport School District proud! 🎉
